This weekend (after a sleepover with a German friend for Jasper and a playdate with a German friend for Cody), on Sunday we took a big bike ride - the first of the "season" (if Spring is really approachable as it seems it is). We took the long distance train (suburban train) to a town south of Berlin (about 20 min) where there are houses (not apartment buildings) and a big, big lake (Wannsee) and lots and lots of bike paths. In all, it was just about 40 mins from our front door to the trail! Sweet, nature's not so far away!
From the s-bahn station we rode about 8 miles in all stopping for a little picnic on a beach at the lake. It was lovely - cool and breezy - but so nice to get out into nature. Jasper had brought with him several detective items to see spiders and whatnot up close. On the beach he created a desk space and put all his detective tools away in their own little spots - pencil, scissors, book about spiders, compass and two magnifying glasses with a designated a drawing area too.

On the way back we rode through a managed forest where they were logging and got to ride by big log piles. (Jasper wanted to climb on, of course. We said it probably was not a good idea.) He has a bike with gears now and can ride for quite some distance. Though at bedtime he said his muscles were sore. Even down by the Wannsee it's quite flat, so pretty it's easy to go far without much effort. Not sure what he'll do when we get back to Seattle! ;)
On the way back, we stopped at a little cafe in Mexicoplatz before hopping back on the s-bahn. Gotta love those fresh pastries and strawberry donuts!
