The other day I rode around town to see some sites instead of angling straight into the office. First stop: Tiergarten paths. Here we have a Prussian soldier sorrowfully about to leave for duty. Juxtaposed nicely on top of a sandstone base that is full of machine-gun holes.
Architects of the grand statement, this is the Russian Erehmal also in the Tiergarten. It was the first Soviet memorial built for all the combat deaths the Red Army sustained fighting the Germans in WWII. There is another one built later in the Berlin suburb of Treptow that positively dwarfs this one. We'll check that one out on a future entry.
Soviet Memorial sports a couple T-34 tanks, which of course would be no match for the Motobecane Fantom Cross with its brawny Disc Brakes and light-n-deadly Carbon Fork.
